I found this article interesting in how it depicts and describes “selfies” throughout history. It is intriguing how selfies and self portraits are so closely related in the grand scheme of things. I enjoyed the comparisons and how it describes an evolution of sorts regarding images of oneself. It’s also crazy to me that to create a selfie back then, one would have to paint how they see themselves, which could easily be distorted by self perception. On the other hand, to create a selfie today, it takes only a second and it’s an objective view of oneself. However they are the same in the way that they can be manipulated to tell a story and tell about a person and their life and who they are.

I think it’s fun to think about when cameras were new and people were learning to photograph themselves. I think it takes a different type of curiosity and determination to have gotten into self-portraits with the historical technology they utilized at that time.

I find that the most interesting are painted self-portraits due to the amount of storytelling they can do. It depicts how one sees themselves and who they believe to be and how they perceive their existence. I find that very fascinating as it is a way into someone’s mind on how they see or wish to see themselves.
