ABOUT ME
A LITTLE BACKGROUND
Howdy, hey! My name is Julia Quilao (pronounced kill-ow), but you can call me JQ.
I was born and raised in Arkansas with two older siblings, and I transferred to the University of Colorado Boulder after one semester of attending a small college there called Ouachita Baptist University. I am currently a senior at the Leeds School of Business, and I’m graduating in May 2023 with a double emphasis in Marketing and Management with a focus on Strategy and Entrepreneurship. I was working towards a minor in Arts Practices, but transferring caused issues with my credits, resulting in me no longer being able to pursue that. But, that hasn’t stopped me from choosing art for my electives anyways.
I am a first-generation American whose parents come from the Philippines, which is something that has greatly influenced my perspective on life and the world. You can see this through much of my art in every medium I’ve had experience with. I’ve always been drawn to any activity that includes art and creativity, so I’ve played around with painting, illustration, sewing, fashion, sculpture, needle felting, film, writing and more. However, I would say my expertise lies in drawing, music, and photography.
Some common themes that are seen in my work include: the Asian-American experience, generational trauma, mental health, divine femininity, the female experience, female rage and my love for animals….. I’m a big animal person. :)
I’m a very eclectic person regarding my interests and hobbies, but some of the main things I participate in during my free time are watching tv shows and movies, playing video games, reading books, playing DnD, napping, scrolling through PetFinder, and finding new music to listen to.
